Garage Door Repair in North Calgary

Garage door repair in northeast and northwest Calgary, where two of Canada's costliest hailstorms hit in 2020 and 2024, and what to check after hail.

North Calgary has taken two very costly hailstorms about four years apart. On June 13, 2020, hail hit Calgary, Airdrie and Rocky View County, and the Insurance Bureau of Canada reported almost $1.2 billion in insured damage. The Weather Network reported that northeast Calgary, Airdrie and Rocky View County were hit hardest, and a photo from Saddle Ridge showed a home's siding shredded. On August 5, 2024, hail hit northern Calgary. Western University's Northern Hail Project first estimated at least 35,000 homes damaged in north Calgary and nearby, LiveWire Calgary described damage in Coventry Hills and across the northwest, and CTV showed damaged homes in the northeast. Insured losses were estimated at $3.25 billion as of February 2025, and the Insurance Bureau said almost one in five Calgary homes was affected.

Hail that can shred siding may also dent a garage door. DASMA's checklist says to check panels for fatigue, cracking or separated material, and to have a trained technician look at a door that shows any of those. Dents that don't affect how the door works may be cosmetic, so ask the shop whether a panel needs replacing or can stay. One Calgary company's price guide says $180 to $800 per panel (checked October 2026).

Before you agree to any hail repair, call your home insurer. Standard home policies cover hail, but some insurers won't pay for dents that don't affect function, a detached garage may need extra coverage, and hail deductibles can be higher. If you are told a repair has to be signed today, take your time: the Better Business Bureau says not to feel pressured, and to get a written estimate. See how to avoid garage door scams.

If the door stops during a storm, it may be the power. ENMAX covers Calgary and area, lists outages on its map, and takes reports at 403-514-6100. See what to do when a door is stuck.

Getting there

The work is done at your home, so give your community when you call and ask whether the shop covers it. For reference, downtown Calgary is about 23 minutes (17 km) from Saddle Ridge and about 25 to 27 minutes (22 to 24 km) from Evanston and Sage Hill, without traffic.
